Terms of Use

Last updated: June 15, 2026

These Terms of Use ("Terms") are a legal agreement between you and RelayShield ("RelayShield", "we", "us", or "our") governing your access to and use of the RelayShield website, browser extension, APIs, and relay services (together, the "Service"). Please read them carefully. By creating an account or using the Service, you agree to these Terms. If you do not agree, do not use the Service.

These Terms incorporate our Privacy Policy by reference.

1. The Service

RelayShield provides relay email addresses and relay phone numbers (aliases) that forward incoming email, SMS, and voice calls to your real contact details, and that let you send outbound replies through those aliases. The Service lets you share an alias instead of your personal email address or phone number. Features available to you depend on your subscription plan.

RelayShield is a forwarding and privacy tool. It is not a telephone carrier, emergency service, or email host of record, and it is not a substitute for them. The Service must not be relied upon for emergency communications, including calls to emergency services such as 911.

2. Eligibility

You must be at least 16 years old to create an account or use the Service. If you are under the age of majority where you live, you may use the Service only with the involvement of a parent or legal guardian who agrees to these Terms. By using the Service, you represent that you meet these requirements and that the information you provide is accurate and complete.

3. Accounts and Security

  • You are responsible for maintaining the confidentiality of your account credentials and any API tokens issued to you (including for the browser extension), and for all activity that occurs under your account.
  • You must verify your email address, and—for phone features—your real phone number, before those features can be used.
  • You must provide accurate forwarding details. We are not responsible for messages or calls that fail to reach you because your real email address or phone number is incorrect, full, blocked, or unavailable.
  • Notify us promptly at [email protected] if you suspect any unauthorized use of your account.

4. Acceptable Use

You agree not to use the Service to, and not to allow anyone else to use the Service to:

  • Violate any applicable law or regulation, or infringe the rights of others.
  • Send spam, bulk, or unsolicited messages, or engage in phishing, fraud, scams, or deceptive practices.
  • Harass, threaten, stalk, defame, or harm any person, or transmit unlawful, abusive, or hateful content.
  • Distribute malware or attempt to gain unauthorized access to any system, account, or data.
  • Impersonate any person or entity, or misrepresent your affiliation with anyone.
  • Evade blocking, bans, identity verification, or other security measures of RelayShield or any third party.
  • Interfere with, disrupt, overload, or circumvent the limits or integrity of the Service or our providers (including Twilio and SendGrid), or use the Service in violation of those providers' acceptable-use rules.
  • Resell, sublicense, or commercially exploit the Service or aliases except as expressly permitted by us.
  • Use automated means to access the Service except through our provided API in the manner we intend.

We may investigate suspected violations and may suspend, limit, or terminate access, remove aliases, or report activity to authorities where appropriate. Relay phone numbers are a shared, limited resource; numbers that are released, unused, or reclaimed may be reassigned.

5. Subscriptions, Billing, and Renewals

  • Plans. Paid features are offered under tiered subscriptions (such as Basic, Standard, and Premium) billed on a monthly or annual basis. The features and limits of each plan are described at the time of purchase.
  • Payment. Payments are processed by Stripe. By subscribing, you authorize us and Stripe to charge your payment method for the applicable fees, taxes, and recurring charges.
  • Auto-renewal. Subscriptions renew automatically at the end of each billing period at the then-current rate until you cancel. You can cancel at any time through your account settings or billing portal.
  • Cancellation. When you cancel, your subscription remains active until the end of the current billing period, after which paid features and associated plan limits no longer apply.
  • Refunds. Fees are generally non-refundable, but we may issue refunds or credits at our sole discretion. Any refund granted in one instance does not obligate us to provide one in another.
  • Price changes. We may change plan prices or features; we will give reasonable notice, and changes take effect on your next renewal.

6. Your Content and Communications

You retain ownership of the content you send and receive through the Service. The Service forwards your communications transiently in order to deliver them; as described in our Privacy Policy, we do not store the body content of your forwarded emails, SMS messages, or voice calls. You are solely responsible for the content you transmit and for ensuring you have the right to send it. You grant us the limited right to process, route, and forward your communications and data as needed to operate the Service.

7. Intellectual Property

The Service, including its software, websites, browser extension, design, and the "RelayShield" name and logo, is owned by RelayShield and its licensors and is protected by intellectual-property laws. Subject to these Terms, we grant you a limited, non-exclusive, non-transferable, revocable license to use the Service for your personal or internal purposes. You may not copy, modify, distribute, reverse-engineer, or create derivative works from the Service except as permitted by law.

8. Third-Party Services

The Service relies on third-party providers (including Twilio, SendGrid, Stripe, and DigitalOcean) and may interact with third-party websites and senders. We are not responsible for the availability, content, or practices of third parties, and your use of their services may be subject to their own terms.

9. Suspension and Termination

You may stop using the Service and close your account at any time. We may suspend or terminate your access, with or without notice, if you breach these Terms, if your use poses a risk to the Service or others, or as required by law or our providers. Upon termination, your right to use the Service ends and your aliases may be deactivated and reassigned. Sections that by their nature should survive termination (including ownership, disclaimers, limitation of liability, indemnification, and governing law) will survive.

10. Disclaimers

The Service is provided "as is" and "as available," without warranties of any kind, whether express, implied, or statutory, including any implied warranties of merchantability, fitness for a particular purpose, and non-infringement, to the fullest extent permitted by law. We do not warrant that the Service will be uninterrupted, timely, secure, or error-free, or that any message or call will be delivered. Some jurisdictions do not allow the exclusion of certain warranties, so some of these exclusions may not apply to you.

11. Limitation of Liability

To the fullest extent permitted by law, RelayShield and its directors, employees, and suppliers will not be liable for any indirect, incidental, special, consequential, or punitive damages, or for any loss of profits, data, goodwill, or for missed, delayed, or undelivered communications, arising out of or relating to your use of (or inability to use) the Service. To the fullest extent permitted by law, our total liability for all claims relating to the Service will not exceed the greater of the amounts you paid us for the Service in the twelve (12) months before the event giving rise to the claim, or CAD $100.

12. Indemnification

You agree to indemnify and hold harmless RelayShield and its directors, employees, and suppliers from any claims, liabilities, damages, losses, and expenses (including reasonable legal fees) arising out of or related to your use of the Service, your content or communications, or your violation of these Terms or applicable law.

13. Changes to the Service or Terms

We may modify, suspend, or discontinue all or part of the Service at any time. We may also update these Terms from time to time. When we make material changes, we will update the "Last updated" date above and, where appropriate, notify you. Your continued use of the Service after the changes take effect constitutes acceptance of the revised Terms.

14. Governing Law and Disputes

These Terms are governed by the laws of the Province of Ontario and the federal laws of Canada applicable therein, without regard to conflict-of-laws rules. You agree that the courts located in Ontario will have exclusive jurisdiction over any dispute arising out of or relating to these Terms or the Service, and you consent to the personal jurisdiction of those courts, subject to any mandatory consumer-protection rights you may have under the laws of your place of residence.

15. General

  • These Terms, together with the Privacy Policy, are the entire agreement between you and us regarding the Service.
  • If any provision is found unenforceable, the remaining provisions remain in effect.
  • Our failure to enforce any provision is not a waiver of it.
  • You may not assign these Terms without our consent; we may assign them in connection with a merger, acquisition, or sale of assets.
